Freelance Project/ Developer
The Role /

‘Bit Parts’ is a visual and textual dataset consisting of drawings, colour studies and descriptions of 5279 things. Working collaboratively with visual artist, Elke Finkenauer, and producer, Suzy Glass, you will develop, design and build a website / interactive tool to bring this dataset to audiences online.

You will work with the artist to develop ideas. From a set of c.800 digitised images, and a csv database (created by the artist), you will develop an online environment that brings the data to life. Your work will be driven by end-user experience, offering audiences accessible opportunities for discovery and self-curation. Offering opportunities for passive, active and creative interactions, audiences can engage with the project as a drawing/contemporary art project, and also as a data project.

Examples of initial ideas and inspiration for the project can be seen here https://app.milanote.com/1NYzm01AYhDUbE?p=o3j10TeGgVS and a selection of drawings, descriptions, colour studies, and a brief introduction to the project can be seen here https://www.elkefinkenauer.com/bit-parts

Requirements /

Working across design, development, build and implementation, you will have experience with the full lifecycle of web-based projects.

Having worked in collaboration with artists, and used experimental, interdisciplinary approaches, you will apply your creative and technical expertise to act as the bridge between the visual artist’s ideas and end-user experience.
You will factor in accessibility, and understand how to maximise compatibility across a wide range of devices.

In addition, you will be skilled in problem solving, abstract reasoning, written and verbal communication, and time management.
